School Board Petitions To Keep Highland HS 5A

District 25 is asking for Highland High School to not be forced to become a 4A school.

The Idaho High School Activities Association said the most recent enrollment numbers put Highland High School one student short of the 1,280 required to be a 5A school.

Being switched to 4A would put Highland in the same classification for sports as the other Pocatello high schools, but the school board voted in meeting Wednesday to petition the IHSAA to leave Highland in 5A.

Board members said the school wants to stay where it is.

“It was the will of the teachers, the coaches, the students. It would be a different situation if we were hundreds of students below the correct number, but we’re not fighting to stay in classification. And even if we did move down to 4A, we’d be back in 5A next year,? School Board Trustee Nate Murphy said.

According the school board, the IHSAA is remeasuring their enrollment numbers for Highland High School.
