Idaho Offers Prime Locations For ‘Learn A Snow Sport’ Month
It’s a month all about learning snow sports, and there are instructors everywhere who are all about teaching them.
Kelly Canyon has kids starting on skis as young as 3 or 4 years old
“It’s really rewarding to have kids out here,” said Kelly Canyon’s ski school director, Teresa Anderson. “We have a ton of kids and it’s great to see them progress.”
Still, Anderson said they welcome students of all ages.
“We do (get adult students),” Anderson said. “A few. Not many.”
For beginners who may not have their own equipment, most ski slopes will rent it out.
According to the Kelly Canyon staff, beginners are better off learning on skis rather than snowboards. The shorter the ski, the easier it is to learn.
Still, learning is no easy task. One instructor said that patience is key, and that most beginners do not even make it onto a ski lift until they have completed a few hours of lessons.
“If you go out and you do it and you practice it a lot, or you do it every day to get better, you’re gonna get better,” Anderson said. “It’s not scary.”
