Truck Fire Ignites Brush, Stops Traffic On I-15
A hay truck caught on fire on I-15 near the Malad Summit at 9:16 a.m. on Sunday, igniting a brush fire and stopping traffic, according to Idaho State Police dispatch.
The truck was traveling southbound on the interstate when the hay it was hauling caught fire at milepost 27. Fire crews were able to put out the blaze, but the truck was completely destroyed, according to ISP dispatch.
But the sparks from the fire ignited the nearby brush. The fire has burned about one acre, but Bannock County fire crews have the fire controlled, dispatch said. To keep drivers safe, traffic is being filtered past the fire as the winds change, dispatch said.
No one has been hurt in either the truck or the brush fire, dispatch said. Police still do not know what caused the hay to catch fire, dispatch said.
