Idaho Falls Fish Deaths A Mystery
Fish and Game officials in Idaho Falls have a bit of a mystery on their hands.
More than 100 rainbow trout in the Ryder Park pond have turned up dead in less than a week.
Regional fisheries manager Dan Garren said crews have been monitoring the water by running chemical and temperature tests, but all have come back negative.
Garren said since the fish come from two separate hatcheries, and both are dying, he believes the problem is something happening in the lake.
So for now, locals might want to think twice before serving them for dinner.
“I certainly wouldn’t scoop up one of the one’s on the side and eat ’em,” said Garren. “Any time you’re harvesting fish, use your best judgement as to whether you would eat that or not. If it looks sick or injured, I’d recommend not eating it.”
Garren said Fish and Game has stopped stocking the pond for now. They’re waiting for results of toxicology tests being performed on a few of the fish.
