AARP: Voters Over 50 Will ?Dominate Primary Voting? In Idaho

AARP said voters over 50 will likely determine the winners in Idaho?s primary election, and has provided a guide for legislative races in the state.

The election will be held Tuesday.

AARP expects similar numbers of older voters as in previous years. Here?s how many voters in previous primary elections were over 50:

— 2010: 73 percent

— 2008: 76 percent

— 2006: 78 percent

— 2004: 80 percent

AARP Idaho?s online tool is intended for helping this ?voting powerhouse? and the general public be informed on key issues as well as candidate?s positions. It?s the statewide AARP Primary Election Voters? Guides for all state legislative races. It can be found at http://aarp.thevoterguide.org/v/aarpus/index.do.

This year, for the first time, only registered Republicans can vote in that party?s primary. (The Democratic primary is still open to registered voters regardless of party affiliation.) It remains to be seen how that will affect numbers at the polls.
