Heavy Rains Flood Area
Heavy rains moved through the Snake River Plain on Saturday afternoon leaving some areas flooded.
The intersection of 17th Street and Yellowstone Highway in Idaho Falls was under several inches of water as of 6:15 p.m. Saturday. The flood waters had even moved into the Sonic at the corner. Cars were still driving through the flooded street. Extreme caution should be used when approaching flooded roadways. Many times, it’s difficult to tell just how deep the water is.
Some places have seen more than a half inch of rain. A Blackfoot weather spotter reports .55 inches of rain as of 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Earlier in the afternoon, some of the rain was accompanied by severe thunderstorms. Parts of norther Bonneville, Fremont and Teton counties experienced strong winds and some hail as the storm moved through the region.
