Lava Fire burns 230 acres in Bingham County
The Eastern Idaho Interagency FireCenter hopes to fully contain the 314-acre “Lava Fire” by 4 p.m. Monday. The fire broke out in a lava beds about 3:15 p.m. Sunday near Horseshoe Road about six miles west of Shelley.
Four engines, a water tanker, and a 20-person Island Park hand crew struggled to encircle the fire in rugged terrain. A single engine air tanker and a helicopter on loan from the Bridger Teton National Forest were used to help contain the blaze yesterday.
No homes or farm land were threatened by the blaze, BLM officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, initial reports indicate the blaze may be human-caused, officials said.
