Crews battle forest fire in Bridger-Teton by air

A wildfire burning in the Bridger-Teton National Forest has consumed 100 acres, forest spokeswoman Mary Cernicek said Monday.

The Fontenelle Fire sparked about 33-miles northwest of La Barge on Sunday afternoon. It is burning in heavy dead and fallen timber, Cernicek said. There’s no word on how much of the fire is contained.

There are no closures or evacuations in place as of 2 p.m. Monday, Cernicek said.

Several helicopters and and an air tanker are battling the blaze and more resources have been ordered.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed control Monday at 6:00 p.m. A Type 3 Incident Management Team is called upon when capabilities exceed what the Forest can manage internally.
The fire danger rating for the area is “High.”
