NWS issues Red Flag Warning
The National Weather Service in Pocatello issued a Red Flag Warning for the Upper Snake River Plain on Sunday.
The warning is in effect for areas below 6,000 feet from noon Sunday until 10 p.m.
The National Weather Service says the warning was issued because of gusty winds and low humidity. Winds are expected to be sustained at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, according to the NWS. Humidity is extremely low – 5 to 15 percent.
The combination of winds and low humidity can lead to “explosive fire growth,” the NWS said.
A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are occurring now or will shortly.
We will be closely monitoring the fire danger throughout the day. Stay with us for the very latest.
