Thayne boy killed in US 89 crash

An 8 year old Star Valley boy was killed in a two vehicle crash on US 89 four miles south of Thayne at 10:38 am Thursday. The Wyoming Highway Patrol says Alex Nunez of Thayne was a passenger in a car driven by 24 year old Jessica Diaz. Troopers said her vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway where it struck a highway delineator post then over-corrected into the path of an oncoming pickup.

Diaz was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Another child, 1 year old Isabella Nunez was transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 66 year old Joseph Mack and his passenger 63 year old Miriam Mack were hospitalized at Star Valley Medical Center in Afton.

The crash caused a temporary closure of US 89 until Troopers could complete their crash investigation and clear the roadway of debris.
