Charlotte Fire evacuees pack info meeting

It was standing room only at a meeting Friday night for people forced out of their homes by the Charlotte Fire.

Hundreds of people packed into the Pocatello City Council chambers to hear from emergency officials about the status of the fire and their homes.

It was a heated meeting. Emotions were running high as evacuees were told crews believe they have a full list of the homes that were completely destroyed in the fast-moving blaze. Evacuees wanting to know the status of their home can look at the list at the Red Cross station at Holt Arena or call (208) 234-6201. There is not information available on damaged homes.

The estimated cost of home damage is $7.6 million, assessors said at the meeting Friday.

Evacuees were told they would likely remain out of their homes until at least Monday. One of the reasons is because fire officials said they need to carefully watch the weather conditions on Sunday to see how the fire reacts.

A second evacuee meeting is set for Sunday at 8 p.m. in Pocatello City Hall.
