UPDATE: Fire breaks out in the Ammon foothills
A fire sparks in the Ammon foothills after 9:45 p.m. Saturday night. The fire started near Marbrissa Lane and Solitude.
Idaho Falls dispatch confirms crews are working to put the flames out, which are coming close to some homes. As of late Saturday night, no one was evacuated. The fire is not contained.
Reporter Todd Kunz confirms Bonneville County deputies have blocked off Crowley Road from 49th South to 65th South. Onlookers have caused traffic jams for firefighters to get to the source of the fire. Deputies are directing traffic. The Idaho Falls Fire Department, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, and Idaho Falls Police have all responded to the fire.
As of 11:30 p.m. Saturday, crew have gained good control of the fire. There are still plenty of glowing hotspots in the field near Solitude and the southwest winds are a big concern that could cause flare ups overnight. Firefighters are still spraying down much of the area.
In a Sunday afternoon press release from Division Chief Dorin Howard, the fire burned approximately 10 acres, damaging pasture, fence posts, and irrigation pipe to the tune of $5,000. The cause was determined to be illegal fireworks. The individual did receive a citation for the illegal fireworks.
