Get away driver sentenced in Christmas Day murder
One of the men charged in connection to the Christmas Day stabbing death of Buck Garner was sentenced Monday.
Derek Perez was sentenced to two and half to seven years. The 18-year-old pleaded guilty in April to a charge of aggravated battery.
Perez told the court in that hearing he drove the car that had the other seven defendants in it after the stabbing.
Judge Dane Watkins, Jr. retained jurisdiction in the case, meaning Perez will likely be enrolled in a Ryder program.
Perez was also ordered to pay a $3,000 fine to the family of Buck Garner.
