Pole fitness comes to Pocatello

Pole dancing has arrived in Pocatello, and we’re not talking about a strip club.

The area’s first pole fitness club, Notorious Janes’ Pole Fitness, has come to the Gate City.

The sport may be controversial, but it is accredited. The International Pole Dance Fitness Association creates requirements for the sport, and even met this year to try to get the sport into the Olympics.

Miranda Downing makes it look like a breeze as she flips and spins up and down the pole. And when she landed on the ground just as gracefully on Wednesday afternoon, her studio full of women erupted into a fit of giggles. Downing said she opened Notorious Janes’ Pole Fitness for just that reason: it’s fun.

“I decided I wanted to work for myself, so I might as well do something I love,” Downing said.

Downing held her grand opening Wednesday, and a group of women were in her studio to take advantage of some free instruction. Downing showed them how to flip up onto the pole and said that women feel confidence from the sport because it changes their bodies for the better. That’s what keeps them coming back.

“It’s very, very intense. It works all the muscles in your body. I got to the point where I started getting these manly muscles in my neck, so I had to change up my routine because it’s so quick,” she said.

Anna Kenoyer knew she had to come out with her friends after getting a flier at Revive at Five.

“Because it’s pole dancing, in Pocatello, pretty rare,” Kenoyer said.

Not only does she feel good on the pole, but she’s feeling the workout, as well, she said.

“I can feel it it my upper abs in my arms, a little bit of chaffing on the inner thighs, but there is so much workout going on and I only spent a little time here,” Kenoyer said.

Women and men who are interested can take hour sessions during the day for $15 an hour or do a month’s membership with unlimited pole time for $60 dollars.

Notorious Janes’ is at 690 Yellowstone Ave., Suite C2 in Pocatello. For details, call Downing at 406-438-7245.
