American Falls drama students in Star Valley crash

Six American Falls High School drama students escaped serious injury when their minivan collided with an oncoming vehicle near Afton at 12:45 p.m. Monday.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the driver of the van, 19-year-old Alexi Sprague of American Falls, was flown to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello in stable condition. The six passengers, all American Falls High School drama students, were treated and released.

The driver of the second vehicle, 79-year-old Marjorie Brown of Etna, Wyo., was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls with broken legs.

Trooper Karl Southam said Sprague was attempting to make a left turn onto U.S. Highway 89 from Wyoming Highway 239 and turned into the path of the oncoming, southbound vehicle. The van spun into the middle of the road while the second vehicle spun off the highway, coming to rest near a power pole.

He said the students were on their way to a camping retreat to lay out plans for the school’s drama programs.
