Organizers prep for annual duck race

It’s an Idaho Falls tradition that’s built the city’s beloved Greenbelt from the ground up: the annual duck race!

On Monday, high speed racing boats took a few practice laps ahead of The Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Race. The 750 to 1,500 horse-power boats will compete in drag racing events on Saturday. There will also be crafts and food vendors all day, a classic car show, a ping pong ball drop with prizes and of course the duck race over the falls.

Duck Race Committee Chair Kevin Call said the event raises about $50,000 a year for the Greenbelt. Thanks to matching donations, it’s raised about $4 million in total.

“This year’s project will be Ryder Park … more walkway down there and we have some really neat ideas for next year, that are really neat, and we’re looking forward to that too,” said Call.

The race kicks off on Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Idaho Falls Greenbelt.
