Blackfoot woman dies in motorcycle accident

A Blackfoot woman died Saturday after a motorcycle crash in Roosevelt, Utah.

Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison said Wednesday that a Chevrolet Cruz driven by Alexander Roberts, 18, of Evanston, Wyo., was traveling eastbound on an inside lane of East 200 North behind three motorcycles traveling in the same direction. He said Roberts did not see the bikes and turned into a Honda motorcycle driven by Craig Spanbauer, 58, of Blackfoot. The car struck his wife, Linda, 55, in the leg and threw both riders off of the bike.

She was found unconscious at the scene and was transported to Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt, then flown by helicopter to Salt Lake City where she later died.

Craig Spanbauer was injured, but was treated and released. Both were wearing helmets.

Harrison said the Spanbauers were traveling with two other motorcyclists bound for the Sturgis, S.D., motorcycle rally. They were not hurt.

Roberts has been charged with a lane travel violation. Investigation into the accident is ongoing.
