Name of victim in Island Park shooting released
The name of the victim in Monday morning’s shooting has been released.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said Jerrod Hillman of Madison County, 34, shot Monte Sommer of Parker with a shotgun in the leg.
Law enforcement officials were alerted to the 1:30 a.m. shooting after a woman pulled over at the side of U.S. Highway 20 south of Ponds Lodge to help with what appeared to be a car accident. A man told her his friend had been shot. Deputies said Hillman threatened the woman, but she left immediately, and Hillman did not hurt her.
Hillman was known to both in the car. Fremont and Madison County deputies and Ashton police officers are looking for him. Hillman is 6 feet tall and 195 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Hillman is listed on the Idaho Sex Offender Registry, with the offense being rape.
Sommer was transported by Air Idaho to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls and was in surgery Monday. Deputies expected to be able to talk to Sommer after he was out of surgery and able to communicate, most likely on Tuesday morning.
