Police: Solicitors steal food, another arrested on burglary warrant
Rexburg police are responding to various incidents involving door-to-door solicitors.
Officers said two men were stealing food from a pantry Friday at the apartments at 409 Pioneer Village. They were identified as door-to-door salespeople.
Also in Monday’s news release, police said a door-to-door solicitor in Rexburg was arrested after police received complaints about Austin Tyrel Merrick, 27, going door to door. They found he had no license to do so, which is required in Rexburg. He was arrested on charges of providing false information, along with two warrants out of Montana – one for burglary and failure to register with a $50,000 bond, and a second warrant for failure to register with a $10,000 bond.
Police said Merrick admitted to stealing an iPad from a woman in Idaho Falls he tried to sell items to.
Police said they also had a complaint about a solicitor on Stonebrook.
We’ll post more details on this story as they become available.
