Man survives 4 days in SLC tunnel
A 33-year-old man trapped in a Salt Lake County tunnel for four days says he could hear people walking and biking above him, but they couldn’t hear his cries for help.
Daniel Samuelsen spoke to The Salt Lake Tribune about his ordeal from his hospital bed, where he was waiting for news about whether his badly broken leg would need to be amputated.
Samuelsen describes himself as an avid hiker who was exploring drainage tunnels beneath the Bonneville Shoreline Trail on Wednesday. He slipped while crawling the pipe and slid about 50 feet down from the entrance, breaking his leg at the bottom.
Samuelsen says he thought he was going to die waiting for rescue, but eventually crafted a splint for his leg and crawled out to get help.
