SEICAA wins funds to upgrade veterans shelter

With community help, a local charity is getting a few much needed improvements to the Pocatello Veterans Home.

The Southeast Idaho Community Action Agency won $25,000 from Home Depot to make their building a better place for former servicemen who might have hit some tough times.

During August, the SEICAA shelter competed on the Home Depot’s Facebook page to get the most votes.

Despite going up against shelters in much larger cities, like Houston and San Francisco, Pocatello’s shelter won decisively with thousands more votes than the nearest runner-up.

“It’s a big morale booster for the guys, that the community stands behind them to bring this into reality,” SEICAA Veteran Services Coordinator Tom Vialpando said.
