Idaho Falls Visitor’s Center moving across the river

After nearly a decade of being a popular stopping point for locals and out-of-state tourists, the Eastern Idaho Visitor Information Center is moving across the river.

Beginning Oct. 3, the visitor’s center, Chamber of Commerce, Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, Better Business Bureau and the Downtown Development Corporation will all be housed in one building on Memorial Drive.

“We’re just trying to create a one-stop shop for people and let them know that not only locally, but around the state, that we’re all trying to work together as a team for business development and tourism interests in Idaho Falls,” said Robb Chiles, CEO of the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce.

As hunting season has officially begun, those needing maps will need to pick them up before the center temporarily closes between Sept. 26-Oct. 3 or order them online.

“I think having the ability to open up their maps and really check their areas instead of taking a guess as to what is included in the online maps, so that convenience is really conducive to hunters,” said Skip Jones, recreation assistant.

While the move may come as a surprise, officials said the transition has been in the works for the last year or so.

“I think it’s going to be a focal point in the area. Being a part of our downtown area will be perfect for us. People can park, come in and get everything they need to know all in one location,” said Chiles.
