Wilson girl dies after being found face down in water

Teton County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl in Wilson.

At about 7 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office received an emergency call about a resident of C-V Ranch who had been found face down under water in a bathroom and was not breathing.

When emergency crews arrived, CPR was already in progress by C-V staff on Araceli Mascarenaz.

Jackson Hole Fire/EMS took over life saving measures, and Mascarenaz was transported to St. John’s Hospital before being flown by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Life-saving measures continued at EIRMC, but Mascarenaz was pronounced deceased in the overnight hours.

Preliminary investigation by sheriff’s deputies has determined Mascarenaz may have suffered from a serious medical event and no indication of foul play has arisen.

The matter remains under investigation by the Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Bonneville County Coroner’s Office.
