Pink Heals tour makes a stop in Idaho Falls

The color pink has long been associated with women and oftentimes the fight against breast cancer.

A group of men who travel across the country spreading their awareness campaign to support all women in their fight against cancer made a stop in Idaho Falls on Saturday.

The group calls themselves the Pink Heals Movement.

“Why does it have to take something that personally affects us to celebrate people we don’t know? It shouldn’t,” said Dave Graybill, founder.

Awareness, love and giving back to the community is the message these men dressed in pink want to share. Every year, the Pink Heals movement embarks on a country-wide tour to help raise money and awareness for local nonprofit entities that help women.

“If we wore her color based on the love we have for her, not her disease, then pink would actually start to heal because we should be directing all of our fundraising dollars locally,” said Graybill.

Equipped with T-shirts, hats, pants, and other pink goodies — as 100 percent of the tour is funded by the sale of their merchandise — the crew drives pink fire trucks autographed by those affected by cancer.

“By the time we finish up today, I will have put in almost 2,400 miles, windshield time, driving from suburban Chicago to near Boise,” said Joel Mains, a volunteer.

Mains is not only a volunteer with Pink Heals, he’s also a firefighter and paramedic from Chicago. This is his second year working the tour.

“We just want women everywhere to know that there are still men in the world that care for them and want to help them and take care of them when they’re having a bad time,” said Mains. “Cancer is the ultimate bully.”

A new pink fire truck is added to the fleet every ten days, expanding their efforts.
