Grenade found in Pocatello home
Police found a grenade in a house near Holt arena.
The Pocatello Police Department came across the device at 724 S. 19th St. during a warrant drug search Monday.
As officers conducted their sweep of the house, not only did they find drug paraphernalia and small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana, but a military hand grenade.
Officers cleared the house and called in the Idaho Falls Bomb Squad.
“In this particular case it sounded like it had a pin and a spoon, just like it was ready to be used,” said Lt. Paul Manning of the PPD. “So you just don’t know how stable they are. You just don’t know what condition they’re in, and you just can’t touch them. … Even as police officers, we bring in the bomb squad to take care of those type of things.”
Pocatello police said Wednesday that they were able to remove the hand grenade from the house to the Bannock County Landfill, where it was successfully detonated and disposed of.
No arrests or charges have been made in this case, but police said a suspect has been identified.
