Driggs woman gives birth on the side of the highway
A Driggs woman gave birth to her baby girl while en route to Madison Memorial Hospital, with the help of her boyfriend, the father of the child.
The newest addition to the town of Driggs can be found cradled in her parents’ arms. A similar scene to the day she was actually born: Saturday on the Archer Highway in her dad’s truck.
“She’s super healthy, everything went perfect,” said mom Danielle Rorabaugh.
Rorabaugh and Michael Murphy were on their way home from a camping trip in Swan Valley when Danielle said she started to feel contractions and knew they wouldn’t be able to make it to the hospital.
“She decided she was ready to come out, so we pulled over, and her daddy delivered her,” said Rorabaugh.
And right there, on the side of the highway in the family truck, Murphy and Rorabaugh became parents of a 7-pound, 5-ounce and 19-inches long baby girl they named Mary Jane.
“I’ve only been scared three times in my whole life,” said Murphy. “Coming face to face with a grizzly bear was one, being chased by a mountain lion was another and delivering my baby on the side of the highway is the third.”
After the birth, doctors checked out mom and baby, and found them both to be healthy as can be.
“I think she’ll end up being a daddy’s girl for sure,” said Rorabaugh.
