Woman arrested on 10 charges, 3 warrants in Idaho Falls

A woman was arrested on a long list of charges Monday after police say she wreaked havoc throughout Idaho Falls.

The police department received a report of a stolen vehicle around 3:20 p.m. The owner claimed to have lent a 1995 white Ford Ranger to Tara Barrett, 31, but she had not returned it.

At about 4:30 p.m., officers were advised of a hit and run on 17th Street and Hitt Road. The vehicle and person involved matched the description of Barrett and the truck. Multiple officers responded and searched the area for Barrett. She was not found.

Around 9 p.m., a Shopko employee reported a woman disturbing the peace at the store on 17th Street as she drove a motorized cart into racks of clothing and other food stands. She was also ripping price tags off of merchandise, police said. They also said she left in a truck and started driving recklessly in the parking lot and then drove over lawns and curbs.

Police found her in the Ross parking lot at on 25th Street. They said she was under the influence of narcotics and also had methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Barrett was arrested and booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a felony possession of methamphetamine charge, as well as the following misdemeanor charges: property damage hit and run, reckless driving, driving without privileges, no insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, under the influence of a controlled substance in public, operating a vehicle without owner’s consent and disturbing the peace. She also had an outstanding warrant in Bonneville County and two Jefferson County warrants.
