Swores Farms offers fun to local families
With two corn mazes, an alpaca-petting station, a face-painting center, extra-sweet corn and 12,000 acres worth of pumpkins, Swore’s Farms offers a lot to families during the fall.
Although having options of things do do at the farm keeps the kids happy, the main reason folks make their way to the edge of Chubbuck year after year is the chance to pick the perfect pumpkin.
“We have some families that have come out eight years in a row now,” said owner Wendy Swore.
That’s because 12,000 acres equates to more than 15,000 pumpkin plants of varying shapes and colors.
And this year, Swore Farms added a new element to the picking experience: a hay wagon ride.
“You put folks on the back of this black-and-white mare here, and their eyes just light up,” said hay ride driver Robert Walker.
Walker and his girlfriend came up with the idea after stopping by the farm for sweet corn in September. Swore loved the idea, and families have, too. In three days of operation, Walker’s wagon, Lily and Bonita have been in high demand, giving 400 people rides to the pumpkin patch.
“Hopefully next year will come out here again and have another wagon,” said Walker.
“I love being apart of the community like this,” said Swore. “We see the same people year after year. Their bringing their families, we watch their kids grow up with them. Anything we can do to make it really special, so that they feel like they’re jumping into the fall and Halloween season, we want to do. We want to make it fun and safe for everybody.”
Swore Farms is open every Monday, Friday and Saturday during the fall.
