Zebra born at zoo

The Tautphaus Park Zoo is welcoming a baby zebra.

The filly’s name is Kapuki, which means “first-born daughter” in Swahili. She was born early in the morning of Oct. 3. The city made the announcement Thursday.

“When we arrived at the Zoo, we found her already up and about with her mom,” said Zoo Superintendent Beth Rich in a news release. “She appears to be doing just fine with the rest of the herd.”

Although the Tautphaus Park Zoo is closed for the season, guests should be able to see Kapuki during Boo at the Zoo on Oct. 29, 30 and 31 from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
