Missing man’s body found

Searchers found the body of a missing construction worker in a pickup at the bottom of a toxic pond Wednesday morning.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office said there is no evidence of foul play or suicide. It appears to be an accident.

Searchers found Shelby Whitaker, 61, in the pickup Wednesday.

Whitaker, who worked for Whitaker Construction, did not show up for work on Monday morning.

Tire tracks led up to the 12-foot-deep Lava Hot Springs Sewer Plant where Whitaker was working before his disappearance, leading officials to believe the White Ford F 350 pickup might have rolled into the water. They started draining the pond Tuesday morning. Hazmat crews and a tow truck were at the pond.
