Chubbuck man dies in American Falls crash

A Chubbuck man died in a three-vehicle crash that blocked the highway in American Falls on Friday morning, Idaho State Police said.

The crash was on the railroad overpass on State Highway 39.

Jack H. Clayton, 62, was driving north when he lost control of his GMC pickup truck on the ice covered road. Clayton’s vehicle slid across the roadway into the southbound lane and struck a guardrail. After striking the guardrail, the vehicle collided with a semi-truck that was traveling southbound. The semi-truck traveled across the road into the northbound lane and collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck and a guardrail.

The driver of the semi-truck, Jean V. Morris, 52, of Mountain Home, was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, Christopher M. Boyd, age, 38, of Idaho Falls, ID, was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt either. Clayton was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the highway, Idaho State Police said.

Both lanes were blocked Friday morning and reopened to traffic at about 12:30 p.m.
