Bonneville sheriff warns of daytime burglaries
People’s homes in the Bonneville County area have been burglarized during daytime hours while people are away at work.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office Tuesday, the burglars knock on the door of a residence to find out if anyone is home. If no one answers, they attempt entry. If an occupant is at home, the burglars comes up with a story of looking for their dog or having the wrong residence.
Cash and medications appear to be the motivation behind this, the sheriff’s office said. Residents are encouraged to take measures to secure their homes while they are away. Lock doors, leave a light on or possibly music playing to make it appear that the home is occupied. Do not leave packages on your front porch, which may be an indicator that no one is home.
Residents are encouraged to call the sheriff’s office and report anyone suspicious around their homes at any hour of the day. Any information on these or other crimes may be eligible for a cash reward and can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (208) 522-1983 or www.ifcrime.org.
