Carousel exhibit to open soon at Museum of Idaho
In two days, museum-goers will be able to see part of the world’s largest collection of carousels in Idaho Falls.
The Museum of Idaho’s latest Exhibit, Carousels: Art and History in Motion, will display some of the world’s finest and rarest artifacts found among carousels.
Organizers say visitors will learn not only about the art and history of carousels, but also the science behind the engines, gears and motion.
There will also be carousels from all over the world including Mexico, France and Germany.
“There used to be over 5,000 carousels in the states and now there are less than 125,” said Britni Storer, marketing director for the museum. “We’ll have a fully-operated carousel here in the museum that people can ride, 120 lbs. or under.”
Of those 125 carousels left in the U.S., one is located in Idaho Falls at Tautphaus Park and another is located in Rexburg.
