Home Depot to hire 100 in eastern Idaho
The local employment market is getting a boost.
A spring-season hiring effort by a national hardware chain is bringing dozens of new jobs to eastern Idaho.
Home Depot announced it will be hiring 80,000 employees nationwide this spring.
“We’re looking for everything, from lot associates to help load customers, from sales associates, to cashiers and pretty much everything in between,” said Tom Holmes, manager of the Home Depot in Idaho Falls.
About 100 new employees will be joining the local Home Depot workforce.Somewhere between 50 and 60 will be hired in Idaho Falls, and the rest will be hired at the Chubbuck store.
“We do this every year,” Holmes said, as a spring hiring surge is typical in hardware stores.
This year’s surge is exceptionally large for Home Depot — roughly 15 percent bigger than last year.
“We just think it’s going to be a good spring,” Holmes said.
Holmes said he’d like to make those seasonal jobs more permanent.
“Based on their customer service (the employees) exhibit while they’re here, we’ll try to keep the majority of them,” Holmes said.
According to the Idaho Department of Labor, every 100 hardware store jobs created in our area creates a ripple effect which could lead to about 48 more new jobs with other employers.
