Idaho Falls selects new police chief

The City of Idaho Falls has selected its new police chief.

Mark McBride, who has been serving as a captain in the police department for 11 years, will assume the responsibility of the chief position immediately. He had been serving as the city’s interim chief.

“I very pleased to make this announcement and am confident that Chief McBride will do a great job heading our City’s Police Department,” said Mayor Jared Fuhriman in a news release Wednesday. “
“With experience managing every division in the department, Chief McBride brings with him a wealth of institutional knowledge that is invaluable in this position.”

McBride is an Air Force veteran who has been with IFPD since 1979. He holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources training and development from Idaho State University as well as certificates from Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and an Idaho POST Management certificate.

McBride is stepping into the role after former Chief Steven Roos’ Jan. 4 retirement. The city had applicants from all over the nation, and a “very strong group of finalists.”

The Idaho Falls City Council will ratify McBride as chief at its meeting Feb. 14.
