See map of potholes in eastern Idaho
Slam on the brakes and watch out for those potholes. Yes, wintertime means the roadways are beginning to see some wear and tear from the plows. And as small or as large as those potholes can be, they can cause some serious damage, which is why we have put together a map of them based on what you have told us.
It’s a little bit painful to watch, but sometimes drivers just don’t see them coming. Potholes are popping up all over.
But if you think driving right through them won’t damage your car, think again.
“A pothole of any consequence, a big enough pothole at a high enough of a speed, the potential is to throw the car out of alignment,” said Perry Bulstrode, service manager and advisor at Majestic Service and Repair.
Majestic Service and Repair has certainly seen its fair share of pothole wrecks already this year.
“You can pop a tire, bend a wheel, worse case you can bend or break suspension components,” said Bulstrode.
One pothole even caused the muffler of a car to fall off.
Some aren’t as visible as some the ones Local News 8’s camera captured today. Deep puddles on the roadways and even some snow left on the roads are still covering potholes.
“If you feel that it’s jarred, if you noticed any miss alignment of the steering wheel or any pull to that vehicle as they’re going down to road, you probably have an alignment issue,” said Bulstrode.
And that could be just the beginning of the problems if the driver doesn’t get to a mechanic.
“With alignment issues, it cause tires to wear,” said Zak Scott, lead technician and foreman at Majestic Service and Repair.
This will just add to the bill of all your repairs, which can range from about $30 to thousands of dollars.
Road departments said they respond to every pothole reported to them as fast as they can.
