Fireman injured in early morning fire

An Idaho Falls firefighter suffered a broken wrist at the scene of a fire at 4648 E. 9 N. shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday. The home was occupied by Leann Harvey.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they had been told that two occupants of the home were trapped. After cutting through garage doors to search for them, however, firemen learned that Bonneville County deputies had already reached them and taken them to safety.

According to a Fire Department news release, a Captain on the scene fell on ice and broke his wrist. He was transported to an emergency room for treatment.

The fire was contained to a three car garage, but had extended to the attic above it. The garage was full of items and no vehicles were inside.

The cause of the fire is unknown and investigation is underway.
