Madison County celebrates 100th year

Madison County is celebrating its 100th year by recognizing its pioneer spirit.

The county courthouse was packed with people listening to speakers and proclamations that showed when Madison became a county on Feb. 18, 1913.

Centennial Committee Member, Lowell Parkinson, paid a tribute to the county recognizing several members of the community for their efforts.

Organizers say they want people to know how Madison County got its beginning.

“We started as an agriculture community and it’s fun to celebrate that. We started with sheep, cattle, grain, hay and potatoes, but we’ve come a long way,” said Centennial Committee organizer Vicki Lee Grover.

Festivities will continue with the addition of a brand new park, a big fourth of July parade and the County fair with carnival rides for the first time.
