Transmission line study released

Bonneville Power Administration is proposing to build a 115-kilovolt transmission line and supporting infrastructure in Caribou County.

The line would run from a proposed new BPA substation at Hooper Springs near Soda Springs, to a proposed connection facility that would tie into Lower Valley Energy’s existing transmission system in northeast Caribou County.

BPA said the project is needed to improve system reliability and meet winter energy use increases and growing electrical demand in southeast Idaho and northwestern Wyoming.

A draft environmental impact statement outlines the routing and line design for the north and south alternatives. They would range from 22 to 32 miles in length and include route options.

BPA has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the proposed project Wednesday, April 3 at Soda Springs High School. A project overview will be offered beginning at 5 p.m. Followed by a public comment period at 5:30 p.m.
