Idaho Falls Construction Project Update
More common than the orange rays of sunshine in Idaho Falls during the summer are the orange construction cones all over town.
Idaho Falls city engineers said there is more construction this summer compared to previous years.
There are several projects in Idaho Falls, but downtown Idaho Falls is the area seeing the most construction.
“I don’t know that you really get used to that,” said Kent Fugal, Idaho Falls city engineer.
Fugal said there will be a few more construction projects before summer ends.
Monday, crews will begin work at A Street and Capitol Avenue.
“Idaho Falls power has some junction boxes that they need to replace and they’ve got some upgrades with the power that they need to do,” said Fugal.
The other big, ongoing project is the D Street underpass.
“Building a bridge is a slow process so it’s not the kind of thing you see a lot of change from one day to the next but there is a lot of work going on there,” said Fugal, adding the project is on schedule. “It’s progressing well, we’re happy with that,” he said.
As for driving around what looks like an obstacle course on some days, Fugal’s advice to drivers is to think of the big picture.
“You’ll have to have patience I guess because it’ll be over soon enough and we’ll have nice new roadways to drive on,” said Fugal.
The Idaho Transportation Department is in charge of the overlay project downtown. Fugal said most of the overlay work will happen at night, so many people will not be impacted.
The majority of the construction projects will be complete or close to finished by the end of August.
