Rash of unsolved burglaries has local business owners concerned

A rash of unsolved burglaries in Idaho Falls has some local business owners concerned.

Police are still looking for the suspects involved in four separate break-ins in the last 7 days.

Aside from the obvious, like locking your doors, police said cases where a home or a business with cameras tend to get solved a lot faster.

From money to guns and jewels, police said the robbers were after anything they could get their hands on.

Great Harvest, the Sno Shack, Vino Rosso and Ross Coin & Gun were all broken in to just days apart.

“At times, burglaries will be higher and at other times, they’ll drop off,” said Sgt. Phil Grimes with IFPD. “Right now, unfortunately, it’s been one of those times where we’ve had quite a few.”

Yvette Wise, owner of Pockets Bar in Idaho Falls, said she has a surveillance system and an alarm system for that extra level of security.

“It’s all motion-sensored, so any kind of alarm that gets called in gets sent to the police department and they come and check and make sure the doors are all still locked and that there’s nothing happening,” said Wise.

The problem with the recent burglaries is that not all of the stores had security systems.

“Burglars don’t want attention drawn to them so anything that makes noise or lights up the area, all of those things are good,” said Sgt. Grimes.

Wise said while the systems can be pricy, they’re a worthy investment.

“I don’t think there’s ever enough security, but it helps,” said Wise.

It doesn’t just have to be cameras, police said things like lights, dead bolts, bars on windows, even guard dogs help because it’ll scare people off.

Police said they do have some leads they’re going to follow-up on for those four burglaries.
