Flash flooding in Bannock County closes roads

A number of roads were closed Friday because of flood waters.

The only road closed is the Center Street underpass, and that is expected to be open late Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

Roads reopen after being closed earlier:

Those in Pocatello and Chubbuck concerned about flooding can go to the City of Pocatello Street Operations Department at 1080 S. First Ave to pick up sandbags, LDS Church on the corner of Hawthorne and Eldredge Road, and Fire Station No. 2, 1539 N. Hayes Ave.

City officials are asking people to stay away from the flooded areas, as cars are stalling and blocking intersections. City crews are working to pump the water out of the flooded areas.

The city emphasized that people in emergencies that are not life-threatening should call (208) 234-6201. For life-threatening emergencies, call 911.

The Pocatello, Chubbuck and Fort Hall areas were affected by the flooding.

The Weather Service says one of its employees measured more than an inch of water in less than 45 minutes.

Pea-sized hail has also been reported in this storm, which appears not to be moving much.
