Advisory committees in Pocatello accepting applications

Have you ever thought you could make a difference in your local government, but don’t want to run for an elected office? There are opportunities to serve on advisory committees.

“There’s something out there for everyone,” said Anne Nichols, assistant to the mayor.

There are 23 advisory committees in Pocatello. Those committees advise the mayor and city council based on their various purposes.

Nichols said it’s easy to apply for a committee. There are application is on the city’s website and available in person in the Mayor’s Office.

She said if you don’t think you have the time or availability, you shouldn’t let that stop you. She said most committee meetings are held in the evening, but all committees have different times.

“Some of the committees meet every other month, some meet every month and some meet twice a month,” Nichols said. “We try to find a balance with that, as well as with your interest and your time level.”

Nichols said this is just one great way learn more about your city and make a difference. Committee positions are on a volunteer basis. Any resident of Pocatello can apply for a committee.
