Motorcycle Accident Closes HWY 26 near Ririe

One man was air-lifted to a local hospital after his motorcycle and a pickup truck crashed along US highway 26 near Ririe, Saturday night.

Idaho State Police say the accident happened around 7:30pm near the intersection of HWY 26 and 129th North.

Police say 20-year-old Zachary Newton, of Mackay, was traveling east on US Highway 26 on a 1982 Suzuki motorcycle. An F-350 Ford Pickup Truckpulled onto the highway to travel west.

Police say Newton was passing two vehicles in a “no passing zone” when he struck the F-350 in the westbound lane.

Newton was transported by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Police said in their report he was not wearing a helmet. His condition is unknown as of this time

The road was blocked for over an hour, and traffic was re-routed.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police, who were assisted by Jefferson County and Bonneville County emergency crews.
