Shutdown could impact INL regardless of Congress

Up to 5,000 employees of the Idaho National Laboratory’s three major contractors are still keeping an eye on Washington, D.C., regardless of what happens on Capitol Hill this week.

CWI employees said they were told in a meeting Tuesday there could be a lapse of time between congressional action on the partial shutdown of the federal government and the DOE’s decision to reverse its shut-down orders.

The Department of Energy ordered a shut-down of various contractor operations last week. Those orders take effect Friday at Battelle Energy Alliance and Monday at CWI. It is unknown when furloughs go into effect for Idaho Treatment Group workers.
