Denney declares candidacy

Secretary of State Ben Ysursa has not announced yet whether he will run for his position in 2014, but someone else has. Former Republican Speaker of the House Lawrence Denney declared his candidacy Thursday.

Five state representatives were there to support Denney’s candidacy, but many within his party are worried that his past behavior indicates that he is not a traditional Idaho Republican. Denney addressed this claim by quoting the preamble of the Republican platform, which he said he wholeheartedly stands by.

“I guess maybe those beliefs make me a right-wing conservative, but I think it’s pretty traditional,” he said.
