Man Tased after telling police he had gun
A man who told Pocatello police he had a gun got Tased, according to a news release.
Pocatello police said they were called to Toponce Drive around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday after they learned Sheldon D. Umphenour, 25, of Pocatello was at the house. Umphenour was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for burglary and two for failure to appear in court.
When police arrived at the house, Umphenour ran out the back door and over a fence. During a foot chase, Umphenour told an officer he had a gun and began to reach towards his waist, police said.
Additional officers arrived, and one used his Taser.
Umphenour was taken into custody without further incident. He did not have a gun, police said.
He was being held in the Bannock County Jail on charges of resisting and obstructing, aggravated assault, manufacture, delivery and possession of a controlled substance, and the outstanding warrants.
One officer suffered a twisted knee and a minor cut to his hand during the chase.
