School facilitators take advantage of Snow Day
The halls were empty at school districts all over eastern Idaho Thursday due to extremely cold weather. But that doesn’t mean schools were completely empty.
Bonneville County District 93’s Director of Operations Todd Hicks said snow days are the best time to catch-up on projects that students could inhibit.
“From the aspect of a facilities manager, it’s a day to get your facilities in order and caught up, just to ensure that all systems are working,” he said.
Hicks said floors sometimes need refinishing, sidewalks need shoveling, and the buses parents entrust their children to every day need attention as well. District Transportation Director Karen Judy knows normal school days won’t be successful if they don’t take advantage of down time.
“Cold weather is hard on equipment, it really is. We do the best we can in taking care of that and making sure were ready tomorrow,” said Judy.
There were a few departments that did lose out Thursday. The cafeteria staff was asked to go home because, of course, there were no students to cook for.
