District does away with Driver’s Ed
The Idaho Falls District No. 91 school board voted Tuesday to discontinue its driving education program.
The district said the cut is due to the lack of instructors and student enrollment. The school district had to to cancel its spring session, but decided that it was worth looking into terminating the entire program.
District superintendent George Boland said they continued with the program as a service to students. The school’s price was significantly lower than private companies. But after the increase in private driving education vendors, it was no longer a necessity for majority of their students.
“What we found was the gap between what we were charging and what the private providers were charging was becoming more and more narrow,” said Boland.
Currently District 91 is the only district in Eastern Idaho without a driving education program.
