Possible morning commute delays in Idaho Falls
Construction on Interstate 15 in Idaho Falls started Tuesday and will continue into your morning commute. Although it may be an inconvenience to some people, once construction is complete the loop ramp will be more circular. The Idaho Transportation Department said this will make it safer for cars to turn on the loop ramp.
ITD said crews will close southbound exit 119 on I15 to reconstruct the loop ramp that connects Grandview Drive to the interstate. Bruce King with the transportation department said you can still use exit 118 in Idaho Falls. He also said during construction there will a temporary ramp so that drivers can get to the interstate.
“The reason for this project is to make this loop ramp more circular for safer turns. On average we have had two incidents a year over the past several years where a tractor-trailer rig overturns on this curve because it gets a little sharp,” said King.
ITD said construction will be completed in Mid-September. ITD awarded the $465,000 contract to a company out of Idaho Falls.
